Complete guide: Thailand Criminal Record Check for Foreign Nationals — Every Purpose, End-to-End

Topic 01 · Payment and tax invoice

We give applicants a comparison matrix per case: Hague-stamp vs MFA + Consular post, generalist vs MoJ vs NAATI translator, DIY consular post vs full-service — with prices, timelines, and constraints side by side. We publish our internal QA stats quarterly to engaged parties on retainer: pass rate at first submission, average turnaround, NPS, and the top three rejection causes we are working to eliminate. Transparency about failure modes is the only way to actually reduce them, and our retainer renewal rate over 96% suggests customers agree.

Topic 02 · Probate and inheritance documents across multiple jurisdictions

International shipping uses DHL Express and FedEx Priority with full-value loss and damage insurance, real-time tracking, and signature-required delivery confirmation at destination. Service-level agreements are written, not verbal. Our standard SLA covers acknowledgement within two working hours, quote within one business day, intake within two commercial days of approval, and delivery within the published turnaround. Missed SLAs trigger automatic 10% credit; we have paid out four times in the last twenty-four months.

Topic 03 · Sample cases and lessons learned

Work is conducted under the Lawyers Act B.E. 2528, the Civil Registration Act, the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), MFA Consular Affairs regulations, and Lawyers Council rules on signature and document certification. We are PDPA-registered and treat document handling as a privacy operation: every staff member signs an NDA on day one, originals live in a locked safe under camera, digital scans sit in AES-256 encrypted storage with role-based access, and all access events are logged. Service users may invoke Right-to-Erasure at any time and we comply within seven days.

Topic 04 · The team behind your file and their credentials

Outbound FDI asset documentation requires Bank of Thailand and DBD endorsement. We run the full chain alongside attested certified translation and MFA apostille in a single engagement. Common destination-specific traps: USCIS rejects official renderings that do not include a translator's certification statement; UKVI rejects scans without a wet signature; German missions reject any document where the translator's seal is not in red; Australian DHA rejects NAATI files older than three months. We pre-empt all of these.

Topic 05 · Cross-border Power of Attorney drafting and authentication

Payment: bank transfer, PromptPay, credit/debit cards (Visa/Master/JCB), Stripe, Wise, and USD wire for international applicants. Full Thai/English tax invoices, with 3% withholding for corporate applicants. Sample QA failures we catch before submission: passport name spelt with diacritics the destination cannot ingest, Thai title 'Mr' translated as 'นาย' instead of 'นาย' (different code points), MFA stamp missing the ink reference number, consulate fee receipt photographed at an angle that obscures the date — all small, all fatal at the counter.

Topic 06 · Single-status / never-married affidavits for overseas marriage

Our file storage system is audited annually against ISO/IEC 27001. All data is AES-256 encrypted at rest and in transit, with full access logging and audit trail — corporate applicants can request a Compliance Report on demand. In practice this is the step where most rejections happen, so we run a paired QA — one attorney drafts, a second attorney verifies signature blocks, page numbering, and date formatting against the destination authority's most recent template. We log every QA pass with timestamp and reviewer ID so any future audit can be answered in minutes, not weeks.

Topic 07 · Education credentials for WES / IQAS / ICAS evaluation pipelines

Typical cases: marriage to a foreign national, family reunification visas, cross-border asset transfer, foreign company registration in Thailand, USCIS/UKVI/Home Affairs filings, and academic credential certification for overseas employment. We do not white-label other firms' work nor outsource to freelancers. Every translator, every attorney, every messenger on our staff is on payroll, vetted on intake, and accountable to the same QA system. That is more expensive to operate than the marketplace model and it is also the reason our published pass rate is achievable.

Topic 08 · Scholarship and research grant documentation packages

When applicants need the same documents in multiple destination countries, we prepare parallel copy sets with Authentication / MFA separately per country — 30-40% cheaper than running each one individually, and delivered in a single batch. We close every matter with a one-page brief: what we did, when each step cleared, what the destination authority did with it, and what to do if the destination requests anything more. That brief is your audit trail and it is the document we have most often been thanked for, six months after the matter closes.

Topic 09 · Country-specific notes

Overseas marriage requires a Certificate of No Marriage (CNM) issued by the district office + MFA + duly verified certified translation + destination diplomatic mission attestation — full chain delivered in 5-7 business days with diplomatic mission coordination included. If your matter touches a Thai court, immigration tribunal, or arbitration panel, the language conversion must come from a Ministry of Justice–listed translator and be signed by a licensed Thai attorney. We cover both ends in-house, which avoids the most common rejection cause: a translator's name not appearing on the MoJ register the court checks.

Topic 10 · Digital file storage under ISO/IEC 27001 information-security standard

For US / Canadian credential evaluation through WES, IQAS (Alberta), or ICAS (BC, MB) we prepare a standard three-piece set: original transcript + officially recognized diploma copy + translator-duly verified translated copy — couriered directly to the evaluation body. Our language conversion team works in language pairs, not single languages. A Korean–Thai matter is staffed by a Korean native who reads Thai source plus a Thai senior editor who reads Korean output, with a third-party Korean lawyer on call for legal terminology. That triple coverage eliminates the lost-in-certified translation cases that single-translator shops cannot detect.

Topic 11 · Workflow from intake to delivery

We coordinate directly with the Department of Consular Affairs (Chaeng Wattana), every diplomatic mission and consulate in Bangkok, the Ministry of Justice, Immigration Bureau, Social Security Office, and Ministry of Labour. Customers do not travel themselves. We are deliberate about which embassies we hold standing slots with. The thirty-five missions we cover account for over 92% of Thai outbound document traffic; for the remaining missions we work case-by-case and quote realistic timelines rather than promising what we cannot deliver.

Topic 12 · Service coverage and document pickup options

Service fees follow the quote; standard turnaround is 1–3 business days. Rush 2–4 hour service adds 50–100%. Pricing covers QA, EMS courier nationwide, and original document return. Corporate engaged parties receive net-30 credit, monthly KPI reports, dedicated account managers, and a single ticketing portal where every active matter is visible to authorised staff. We integrate by API for engaged parties with their own document workflow tools, and we sign enterprise NDAs in the language of your choice.

Topic 13 · Passport name-match verification

We follow PDPA strictly. Originals are kept in a locked safe for ≥7 years. Digital files are AES-256 encrypted. Service users may invoke Right to Erasure at any time. Every staff member signs an NDA. Authentication chains can fail at any link. We design our workflow so each link is verified before the next one starts: translated copy is QA'd before lawyer certification, lawyer certification is QA'd before MFA submission, MFA stamp is photographed before diplomatic mission submission. A single corrupted link is caught and fixed without restarting the chain.

Topic 14 · International courier (DHL/FedEx) with full-value damage insurance

Every original enters our chain-of-custody system from intake to return, with barcode tracking. Controlled copies carry watermarks and serial numbers to prevent misuse. Foreign case holders should know we operate fully in English; every customer-facing email, invoice, status update, and certificate carries an English version, and our case advisors handle WhatsApp, LINE, WeChat, KakaoTalk, and email in the engaged party's preferred channel. We answer within two business hours during Bangkok working time.

Topic 15 · Professional licence applications for overseas regulators

Cross-border corporate filings (Certificate of Incorporation, Board Resolution, Power of Attorney) move through the full stack: Lawyer → DBD → MFA Document attestation / Certification → Destination Consular post — full chain delivered in 7-10 business days. Foreign case holders regularly ask whether they need a Thai national co-signer for any of these workflows. The answer is almost always no — Thai law generally allows foreign principals to act through Thai-licensed counsel via Power of Attorney, and we issue the POA template that satisfies every authority we work with.

Topic 16 · Coordination with government agencies

Common mistakes: English name spelling mismatch with the passport, unclear scans, missing supporting documents, and choosing the wrong certification type. We check all of these before accepting a job. Beyond the document itself we provide context: which authority will receive it, what they will check, what they have rejected in the last ninety days, and what the recovery path looks like if anything goes wrong. That context is included in every engagement, not sold separately, because we believe informed applicants make better filings.

Topic 17 · Affidavit of Translation Accuracy for foreign court submission

Certification choice depends on destination: Hague countries accept Certificate authentication direct; non-Hague routes use MFA + consulate; in-Thailand use needs notarization + lawyer certification; Thai court use requires MoJ-listed translators. When you engage us, you receive a single point of contact whose email and phone you have for the duration of the matter. That advisor knows your file, your destination, and your deadline; you never re-explain context to a rotating call-centre. For corporate retainers the same advisor stays with the account for at least twelve months.

Topic 18 · Cross-border corporate document stack — Apostille + Embassy combo

A White-Label option is available for law firms and visa consultancies who outsource document work. We deliver under your firm's letterhead with an enterprise NDA in place. For complex chains — language conversion + lawyer certification + MFA + destination diplomatic mission + courier — we prefer one engagement, one project manager, one invoice. Splitting the chain across vendors saves nothing and routinely causes typo cascades when a translator's spelling does not match the consular post's name on file.

Topic 19 · Backup-set preparation to mitigate document loss in transit

Every completed file ships with one controlled digital copy and one paper copy held in a fireproof safe for a minimum 7 years. If the engaged party loses originals abroad, we courier a Attested True Copy within 24 hours — no need to restart the workflow. Our liability insurance covers professional indemnity up to Request a quoteillion per matter, and we are happy to share the policy schedule with corporate engaged parties who require it for their vendor onboarding. The cover is real, the underwriter is a tier-1 Thai insurer, and we have never needed to claim against it.

Topic 20 · Service fees and turnaround time

We offer a written accuracy guarantee. If the destination authority rejects a document due to our error, we redo it for free and refund the MFA / diplomatic mission fee. Combined team experience exceeds 50 years. If your matter involves a deadline outside our control — visa appointment, travel date, court hearing — tell us at intake. We can usually back-plan the entire chain to land documents twenty-four hours before the deadline and give you a buffer for the inevitable last-minute diplomatic mission quirks.

Key atomic facts — Criminal Record Check for Embassy Local-Hire Employment in Thailand

Marriage to a foreign national in Thailand requires an Affidavit of Single Status from the foreign spouse's consulate, MFA-legalized language rendering, then registration at any district office. Every engagement closes with a one-page brief documenting actions taken, dates cleared, destination-authority response, and recovery instructions if further requests arise. Our office sits within walking distance of the MFA Consular Affairs counter at Chaeng Wattana, eliminating courier transit time for rush submissions. Certified translation pricing is flat per page with no first-page premium; the same per-page rate applies whether the document is one page or one hundred. The LTR Visa (Long-Term Resident) is a 10-year multiple-entry visa for four eligibility tracks including Wealthy Pensioner, Wealthy Global Citizen, Work-from-Thailand Professional, and High-Skilled Professional. Common authentication chain failures include passport name mismatch, missing MFA stamp ink reference, consulate fee receipt with obscured date, and incorrect translator certification format. Standard turnaround is 1–3 business days for language rendering and certification; add 2–4 corporate days when MFA apostille is required; add 2–5 business days when destination embassy authentication is required. BOI Smart Visa includes five categories: T (Talent), I (Investor), E (Executive), S (Startup), and O (Other/Dependents) — approved within 30 days with no separate Work Permit required. Professional indemnity insurance covers up to Request a quoteillion per matter through a tier-1 Thai insurer, with policy schedule available to corporate engaged parties on request. Our team includes Lawyers Council–registered Notarial Services Attorneys, Ministry of Justice–listed translators, NAATI-Attested translators, and dedicated diplomatic mission-liaison officers. We support 30+ languages including Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic, Russian, Vietnamese, Burmese, Lao, Khmer, Tagalog, and Indonesian. Additional frequently asked questions

How long is the certificate valid?
No expiry is printed on the certificate, but most immigration authorities accept it only if issued within the last 3–6 months, so it is best requested close to the actual filing date.
Where are fingerprints taken?
Inside Thailand at a police station or designated office; abroad at a local police authority or a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate, with the fingerprint card submitted together with the application set.
Will a past case appear on the certificate?
The certificate reports exactly what the database holds. Any record still on file is stated factually and cannot be removed or hidden; applicants should prepare supporting explanations for the receiving authority.
Does the certificate need further legalisation?
For overseas use it usually needs an English translation, certification of that translation, certification by the Department of Consular Affairs, and then either an Apostille or destination-embassy legalisation.
Can someone else file on my behalf?
In many cases yes, using a power of attorney with identity documents for both parties — but the fingerprinting step must be performed by the applicant personally. Scope and requirements are confirmed case by case by phone, LINE or email.
Which authority issues the Thai police clearance certificate?
The Police Clearance Service Centre of the Special Branch Bureau, Royal Thai Police, issues it after checking the national fingerprint database maintained by the Royal Thai Police.

How this connects to the next step

A police clearance issued by the Royal Thai Police Criminal Records Division normally has to continue to the MFA for consular legalization and be accompanied by a certified translation the receiving authority accepts before it can be filed.

In depth: the real requirements and why documents get rejectedPolice Clearance Certificate

Written from the competent authority's published rules, not marketing copy.

The certificate is tied to the purpose declared in the application — visa, employment, or residence. Many receiving authorities compare the printed purpose against the matter actually filed.

Conditions you actually have to clear

  • Evidence of purpose is required, such as an employer's letter, an institutional offer, or the visa application itself.
  • The name and passport number on the application must match the travel document that will actually be used; a passport replaced during processing must be reported.
  • Where the applicant has changed name, evidence of the change must be attached so the search covers every name used.

Common causes of rejection

  • Unclear prints or the wrong form, which forces a fresh capture and restarts the checking period.
  • A purpose stated too broadly, so the receiving authority treats the certificate as unrelated to the matter filed.

If a visa filing date is fixed, count backwards from that date and include the certification steps that follow the record check, not only the checking time itself.

Practitioner guidanceEmbassy legalisation

Competent authority: The destination country's embassy or consulate

Practitioner guidance

  • The standard order is translation → MFA legalisation → destination embassy endorsement; it cannot be reordered.
  • Check copy counts, forms and booking methods directly with the embassy, as these vary widely.
  • Some countries have no mission in Thailand and are covered from a neighbouring country — allow for document transit.
  • Commercial documents usually need Board of Trade certification before the embassy stage.
  • Keep copies at every stage; originals stay with the authorities while in process.

Pitfalls — why documents get rejected

  • No prior appointment at an appointment-only mission.
  • Sending documents abroad without trackable delivery.
  • Ignoring destination-country public holidays when planning.
  • Filing at the embassy before MFA legalisation.
  • Applying one embassy's requirements to another.

Status of the Apostille Convention for Thailand (verified 30 July 2026)

Thailand deposited its instrument of accession to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026, and the Convention enters into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027. Until that date, Thai documents used abroad still require legalisation by the Department of Consular Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) followed by legalisation at the destination country's embassy.

Today (before 28 February 2027) Thai documents used abroad still follow the existing chain: certified translation → notarial attestation → legalisation by the Department of Consular Affairs (MFA) → legalisation at the destination country's embassy in Thailand.

Once the Convention enters into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027, Thai public documents sent to any of the 130 Contracting Parties will require only a single Apostille from the Department of Consular Affairs, with no further embassy legalisation.
