Real customer questions, answered by our attorneys

Selected from our knowledge base of 3,300+ real questions we have answered.

If a foreign client needs an affidavit of identity for a foreign bank, whether a certified translation is required as well?

Notary Public

Short answer to "If a foreign client needs an affidavit of identity for a foreign bank, whether a certified translation is required as well?" — You must sign in front of the attorney with your original passport; the attorney affixes the notarial seal, signature, register number and date so the document is accepted abroad. The notarised document remains valid indefinitely, but consulates and banks abroad usually accept it only within 3–6 months of issuance. Walk-in and mobile-notary appointments both available — call 094-895-8999 to confirm a slot. Process in brief: (1) confirm the original was issued by the competent authority and is still within the accepted validity window; (2) have it translated by a translator the destination accepts; (3) obtain certification of the signature/translation; (4) add destination-embassy legalisation only where Apostille is not accepted; (5) proof names, dates and reference numbers before dispatch. What to prepare: an intact original that is not torn or laminated, evidence of any name change where the document does not match your current name, a passport copy, and a power of attorney with ID copies of both grantor and agent. Common pitfall: self-made or machine translations are usually refused — reviewers check the letterhead, the translator's certification wording, and whether every stamp on the original has been rendered. Practitioner's tip: treat the destination authority's own published checklist as the final reference; country-specific rules change, and we will review that checklist with you before filing.

Must bank statements and passbooks bear original wet-ink stamps and bank manager signatures for MFA legalization?

Consular / Apostille

Practitioner's view to "Must bank statements and passbooks bear original wet-ink stamps and bank manager signatures for MFA legalization?" — Thai consular legalisation is performed by the Legalization Division, Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at Government Complex Chaeng Watthana (Building B), plus MRT Khlong Toei and regional counters. Thailand deposited its instrument of accession to the Hague Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026, with entry into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027, so documents destined for member states now need a single Apostille from MFA — no destination-embassy step, except for states that objected to Thailand's accession. Send a photo of the document to LINE @Thainotary and we will quote the chain, cost and timeline within 15 minutes. Process in brief: (1) decide whether the destination requires an original or a certified true copy; (2) prepare a power of attorney if you cannot attend; (3) translate in the required format; (4) file and monitor the queue; (5) verify whether supporting documents are also required at destination. What to prepare: the original or a certified extract from the issuing authority, a copy of the holder's ID or passport, a power of attorney if someone files on your behalf, and the exact English spelling of every name as it appears in the passport.

How can the progress of academic translation for credential assessment be tracked while it is running?

Certified translation

How we handle this in practice to "How can the progress of academic translation for credential assessment be tracked while it is running?" — Thailand deposited its instrument of accession to the Hague Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026, with entry into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027, so outbound documents to member states need one Apostille from MFA instead of a destination-embassy step, except for states that objected to the accession. We cover English, Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Italian, Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Hindi, Vietnamese, Myanmar, Lao, Khmer, Indonesian, Malay, Tagalog, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Finnish and Eastern European languages. Send a photo of the document to LINE @Thainotary and we quote the language pair, chain, cost and timeline within 15 minutes. Process in brief: (1) confirm whether the receiving body wants an Apostille or embassy legalisation; (2) obtain the certified original from the issuing authority; (3) translate through an accepted translator; (4) certify translation and signature; (5) keep high-resolution colour scans of every page before the file leaves Thailand. What to prepare: an intact original that is not torn or laminated, evidence of any name change where the document does not match your current name, a passport copy, and a power of attorney with ID copies of both grantor and agent. Common pitfall: many destinations accept documents only within 3–6 months of issue or certification. Missing that window means re-issuing and re-certifying the entire set, so plan backwards from the real filing date. Practitioner's tip: keep colour scans of every certified page. If a courier loses the set, digital copies make re-issue and verification dramatically faster.

Quick summary for expats to "If a foreign client needs a proof-of-life or pension certificate, whether a certified translation is required as well?" — In Thailand notarial services are performed by a Notarial Services Attorney registered with the Lawyers Council of Thailand — the document is then eligible for MFA legalization or Apostille (in force from 28 February 2027 (entry into force for Thailand)) before use overseas. Standard turnaround is 1 business day; same-day service is available by appointment for straightforward files. What to prepare: the full original set, colour scans of every page for translation proofing, an English spelling list for all people and place names, and any extra items listed on the destination authority's own checklist. Common pitfall: states that objected to Thailand's accession to the Apostille Convention still require destination-embassy legalisation, so confirm the destination's position before starting. Practitioner's tip: if the same document is needed by several authorities, produce all copies in one round — it saves time and keeps the certification format consistent across the sets.

Living upcountry or overseas, how can academic translation for credential assessment be completed without travelling in person?

Certified translation

How we handle this in practice to "Living upcountry or overseas, how can academic translation for credential assessment be completed without travelling in person?" — Every translation ships with a Certificate of Accuracy carrying the translator's name, a job reference number and the company seal — the format Thai ministries, embassies and universities expect. MFA Thailand only certifies the Thai–English pair, so a third-language original is either relayed through English or translated directly into Thai with a signed translator declaration attached to every page. Door-to-door pickup in Bangkok and DHL dispatch worldwide — call 094-895-8999. What to prepare: the original or a certified extract from the issuing authority, a copy of the holder's ID or passport, a power of attorney if someone files on your behalf, and the exact English spelling of every name as it appears in the passport. Common pitfall: official fees and service windows change. Verify the current rate and turnaround directly with the certifying authority before you fix a budget or a travel date. Practitioner's tip: keep colour scans of every certified page. If a courier loses the set, digital copies make re-issue and verification dramatically faster.

Practitioner guidanceEmbassy legalisation

Competent authority: The destination country's embassy or consulate

Practitioner guidance

  • Check copy counts, forms and booking methods directly with the embassy, as these vary widely.
  • Some countries have no mission in Thailand and are covered from a neighbouring country — allow for document transit.
  • Commercial documents usually need Board of Trade certification before the embassy stage.
  • Keep copies at every stage; originals stay with the authorities while in process.
  • Confirm which translation language and which translators the embassy accepts.

Pitfalls — why documents get rejected

  • Filing at the embassy before MFA legalisation.
  • Applying one embassy's requirements to another.
  • Commercial documents missing required chamber-of-commerce certification.
  • Preparing fewer copies than the embassy requires.
  • No prior appointment at an appointment-only mission.

深入常见问题使领馆认证

答复依据主管机关公布的要求,并非广告内容。

使领馆认证办妥的文件有有效期吗?

有效期由受理机关规定,而非服务提供方。许多机关只接受近期签发的文件,因此请先确认受理方的时限要求,再启动 The destination country's embassy or consulate 的流程,以免文件在排队期间过期。 个别情况请通过电话、LINE 或电子邮件向我们的工作人员咨询。 以上为一般性说明。要求与办理时间可能变动,办理前请务必以主管机关最新公告为准。

使领馆认证必须本人到场吗?可以委托吗?

部分环节需要文件所有人签署或到场,部分环节可凭授权委托书代办,取决于 The destination country's embassy or consulate 的规定与文件类型。建议在预约前先确认条件,避免到场后无法受理。 个别情况请通过电话、LINE 或电子邮件向我们的工作人员咨询。 以上为一般性说明。要求与办理时间可能变动,办理前请务必以主管机关最新公告为准。

为什么本页不显示使领馆认证的价格?

页数、语言、认证环节数量,以及 The destination country's embassy or consulate

The destination country's embassy or consulate

The destination country's embassy or consulate。若未按受理机关指定的路径办理,即使文件内容正确,也可能不被接受。 个别情况请通过电话、LINE 或电子邮件向我们的工作人员咨询。 以上为一般性说明。要求与办理时间可能变动,办理前请务必以主管机关最新公告为准。

在哪里可以查证使领馆认证的最新要求?

请直接查阅 The destination country's embassy or consulate 的公告。本页所依据的官方来源为 https://consular.mfa.go.th/th/publicservice/legalization · https://www.hcch.net/en/instruments/conventions/status-table/?cid=41。相关规定会不定期修订,每次办理前请以最新版本为准。 个别情况请通过电话、LINE 或电子邮件向我们的工作人员咨询。 以上为一般性说明。要求与办理时间可能变动,办理前请务必以主管机关最新公告为准。

使领馆认证需要多长时间?

办理时间并不固定,取决于 The destination country's embassy or consulate

Composite cases assembled from commonly seen matters — not individual clients, no personal data.

police clearance certificate from Chiang Rai for an export shipment

an authorised representative of a Thai-registered company from Chiang Rai — the spelling on older documents did not match the current passport

What we handled: reviewed the source documents and flagged which ones needed re-issuing before work began · prepared the translation and reconciled every name spelling against the passport · tracked progress between steps and reported status along the way

What clients usually ask in matters like this: if I am upcountry or abroad, must I attend in person?

Indicative timeline: roughly 7–14 working days end to end

civil registration documents from Switzerland for a destination work-permit filing

an attorney-in-fact acting for the document holder from Switzerland — the signatory and the applicant were in different provinces, so signing and shipping had to be planned

What we handled: delivered a scanned set plus the originals with lodgement instructions · tracked progress between steps and reported status along the way · reviewed the source documents and flagged which ones needed re-issuing before work began

What clients usually ask in matters like this: are true originals required, or will certified copies do?

Indicative timeline: roughly 10–20 working days end to end

company certificate from South Korea for use in a non-Apostille jurisdiction

a Thai–foreign couple filing together from South Korea — the destination prescribed a specific translation and certifier type, so the right track had to be chosen upfront

What we handled: arranged the signing or lodgement appointment and listed what to bring · tracked progress between steps and reported status along the way · reviewed the source documents and flagged which ones needed re-issuing before work began

What clients usually ask in matters like this: how long does the set stay valid after certification?

Indicative timeline: roughly 5–10 working days end to end
