Does mainland China now accept a Thai apostille?

Yes. China acceded to the Hague Convention on 7 November 2023 and Thailand deposited its instrument of accession on 30 June 2026, with entry into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027. From that date a Thai apostille will be valid for mainland China without further Chinese embassy legalization; until then, legalization at the Chinese Embassy in Bangkok is still required. Hong Kong and Macao operate under separate but Hague-compatible regimes and also accept the apostille. A notarial certification issued in Thailand by a Notarial Services Attorney does not attest that the statements inside a document are true. It attests to procedural facts: that the signatory appeared in person, presented valid identification, and signed in the certifier's presence.
