Complete guide: Apostille Thailand — MFA Department of Consular Affairs Apostille for 130 Hague Convention Contracting Parties (enters into force 28 February 2027)

Topic 01 · Choosing the right certification for your destination

An Affidavit of Language conversion Accuracy is the translator's sworn statement before a notary that the official rendering is complete and accurate — required by US, Australian, Canadian, and UK courts. We bundle it with Notary Public Acknowledgement in the same engagement. Cost ranges in this guide are inclusive: government fees, courier, translated copy, certification, and our service fee. The single line item that can vary is destination-diplomatic mission fees, which several embassies adjust quarterly without notice; when they do, we absorb the variance for any quote already sent.

Topic 02 · Pre-booked appointments at embassies and VFS/TLS/BLS centres

Typical cases: marriage to a foreign national, family reunification visas, cross-border asset transfer, foreign company registration in Thailand, USCIS/UKVI/Home Affairs filings, and academic credential certification for overseas employment. Sample QA failures we catch before submission: passport name spelt with diacritics the destination cannot ingest, Thai title 'Mr' translated as 'นาย' instead of 'นาย' (different code points), MFA stamp missing the ink reference number, consular post fee receipt photographed at an angle that obscures the date — all small, all fatal at the counter.

Topic 03 · Asset documentation for outbound FDI and treasury filings

Cross-border corporate filings (Certificate of Incorporation, Board Resolution, Power of Attorney) move through the full stack: Lawyer → DBD → MFA Hague-stamp / Consular endorsement → Destination Consulate — full chain delivered in 7-10 business days. For complex chains — language rendering + lawyer certification + MFA + destination consulate + courier — we prefer one engagement, one project manager, one invoice. Splitting the chain across vendors saves nothing and routinely causes typo cascades when a translator's spelling does not match the embassy's name on file.

Topic 04 · Payment and tax invoice

We give customers a comparison matrix per case: Hague-stamp vs MFA + Consular post, generalist vs MoJ vs NAATI translator, DIY consulate vs full-service — with prices, timelines, and constraints side by side. We are deliberate about which embassies we hold standing slots with. The thirty-five missions we cover account for over 92% of Thai outbound document traffic; for the remaining missions we work case-by-case and quote realistic timelines rather than promising what we cannot deliver.

Topic 05 · Probate and inheritance documents across multiple jurisdictions

Frequent add-ons: MFA authentication, destination consulate authentication, NAATI language conversion for Australia, MoJ translated copy for Thai courts, Notary Public for overseas use, and visa filing when the full document set is required. We routinely handle files for case holders who never set foot in Thailand. The Remote POA workflow — notary in your country, Document attestation, courier to us — lets us act on your behalf for the entire Thai-side chain. Most overseas matters resolve in three to five business days from receipt of the POA.

Topic 06 · Inter-country adoption documents under the Hague Adoption Convention

Diplomatic mission authentication is the last link in the chain. We hold standing slots at 35 major Bangkok embassies, cutting the 5–10 day queue down to 2–3 business days. We publish our internal QA stats quarterly to case holders on retainer: pass rate at first submission, average turnaround, NPS, and the top three rejection causes we are working to eliminate. Transparency about failure modes is the only way to actually reduce them, and our retainer renewal rate over 96% suggests applicants agree.

Topic 07 · The team behind your file and their credentials

Standard turnaround is 1–3 business days for most documents. Files that need MFA certification add 2–4 enterprise days. Same-Day rush is available at +100% with prior booking. On urgency: roughly 18% of our matters are filed under same-day rush. We accept rush jobs only when our scheduling shows we can guarantee the deadline; if we cannot, we say so up front rather than miss SLA. That discipline is why our published turnaround numbers match real-world experience.

Topic 08 · Comparison of client options

Each destination has its own quirks: the US wants state-level Document attestation, the UK uses FCDO Authentication seal, Australia accepts NAATI without Authentication seal, China requires consulate authentication, Japan often demands consulate-aligned language conversion. We do not white-label other firms' work nor outsource to freelancers. Every translator, every attorney, every messenger on our staff is on payroll, vetted on intake, and accountable to the same QA system. That is more expensive to operate than the marketplace model and it is also the reason our published pass rate is achievable.

Topic 09 · Single-status / never-married affidavits for overseas marriage

Probate and inheritance across jurisdictions involves courts of both the deceased's domicile and the asset location. We coordinate between Thai and overseas counsel, producing authenticated documents and language renderings end-to-end. Service-level agreements are written, not verbal. Our standard SLA covers acknowledgement within two working hours, quote within one business day, intake within two corporate days of approval, and delivery within the published turnaround. Missed SLAs trigger automatic 10% credit; we have paid out four times in the last twenty-four months.

Topic 10 · Embassy and consular re-legalization

Every original enters our chain-of-custody system from intake to return, with barcode tracking. Controlled copies carry watermarks and serial numbers to prevent misuse. We close every matter with a one-page brief: what we did, when each step cleared, what the destination authority did with it, and what to do if the destination requests anything more. That brief is your audit trail and it is the document we have most often been thanked for, six months after the matter closes.

Topic 11 · Standard turnaround vs rush service

Digital Nomad Visas (Portugal, Spain, Italy, Estonia) and Remote Work Visas (Dubai, Barbados, Bermuda) require Proof of Income, Health Insurance, Background Check, and Education Certificate — all Consular endorsementd. We deliver the full stack. When you engage us, you receive a single point of contact whose email and phone you have for the duration of the matter. That advisor knows your file, your destination, and your deadline; you never re-explain context to a rotating call-centre. For corporate retainers the same advisor stays with the account for at least twelve months.

Topic 12 · Service fees and turnaround time

Citizenship application and renunciation packages are large: Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Police Clearance, Tax Clearance, Military Service Record — each requires its own certification chain. We maintain country-specific checklists for every destination. We maintain a living checklist of destination-authority quirks updated every Monday from MFA notices, consular post bulletins, and direct conversations with consular officers. That checklist is what separates a 95%-pass shop from a 99.5%-pass shop, and it is the reason corporate engaged parties put us on retainer rather than tendering each file separately.

Topic 13 · Quality standards and accuracy guarantee

For US / Canadian credential evaluation through WES, IQAS (Alberta), or ICAS (BC, MB) we prepare a standard three-piece set: original transcript + authenticated diploma copy + translator-attested language rendering — couriered directly to the evaluation body. Authentication chains can fail at any link. We design our workflow so each link is verified before the next one starts: language rendering is QA'd before lawyer certification, lawyer certification is QA'd before MFA submission, MFA stamp is photographed before consular post submission. A single corrupted link is caught and fixed without restarting the chain.

Topic 14 · Original and controlled-copy handling

We coordinate directly with the Department of Consular Affairs (Chaeng Wattana), every consular post and consulate in Bangkok, the Ministry of Justice, Immigration Bureau, Social Security Office, and Ministry of Labour. Engaged parties do not travel themselves. Foreign applicants should know we operate fully in English; every customer-facing email, invoice, status update, and certificate carries an English version, and our case advisors handle WhatsApp, LINE, WeChat, KakaoTalk, and email in the customer's preferred channel. We answer within two business hours during Bangkok working time.

Topic 15 · Service coverage and document pickup options

Service fees follow the quote; standard turnaround is 1–3 business days. Rush 2–4 hour service adds 50–100%. Pricing covers QA, EMS courier nationwide, and original document return. Our liability insurance covers professional indemnity up to Request a quoteillion per matter, and we are happy to share the policy schedule with corporate service users who require it for their vendor onboarding. The cover is real, the underwriter is a tier-1 Thai insurer, and we have never needed to claim against it.

Topic 16 · Passport name-match verification

Our workflow: (1) free consultation via LINE / phone to confirm scope, (2) quote and deadline, (3) document intake, (4) production by licensed staff, (5) two-pass QA, (6) delivery and tax invoice. Case holders track status 24/7 via reference number. Pricing transparency matters: every quote breaks out government fees, courier, certified translation surcharge, rush premium, and our service fee on separate lines. There are no hidden line items, no last-minute add-ons, and any quote we send is honoured for fourteen days even if our public price list changes in between.

Topic 17 · International courier (DHL/FedEx) with full-value damage insurance

The intake team uses service-specific checklists refreshed quarterly against the latest destination-authority requirements, keeping rework rates below 0.5%. If your matter touches a Thai court, immigration tribunal, or arbitration panel, the official rendering must come from a Ministry of Justice–listed translator and be signed by a licensed Thai attorney. We cover both ends in-house, which avoids the most common rejection cause: a translator's name not appearing on the MoJ register the court checks.

Topic 18 · Apostille, e-Apostille, and the 1961 Hague Convention pipeline

Name-match verification is critical for visa-bound documents. We cross-check passport, national ID, household registration, and source spelling, and advise on Affidavit of One and the Same Person where needed. Many destinations now require authentication seal in addition to official rendering since Thailand joined the Hague Convention on 28 February 2027. We handle the entire post-Hague workflow, including the cases where an consular post still asks for the legacy MFA + consular post chain because their own implementation has not caught up.

Topic 19 · Affidavit of Translation Accuracy for foreign court submission

Overseas marriage requires a Certificate of No Marriage (CNM) issued by the district office + MFA + officially recognized official rendering + destination consulate attestation — full chain delivered in 5-7 business days with consulate coordination included. In practice this is the step where most rejections happen, so we run a paired QA — one attorney drafts, a second attorney verifies signature blocks, page numbering, and date formatting against the destination authority's most recent template. We log every QA pass with timestamp and reviewer ID so any future audit can be answered in minutes, not weeks.

Topic 20 · Sample cases and lessons learned

Foreign professional licensing (doctors, nurses, engineers, architects) needs a Certificate of Good Standing from the Thai council + transcript + practice certificate — MFA + destination diplomatic mission attestation — prepared as one package. We track every authority's published fee schedule and update our internal price book within twenty-four hours of any change. Applicants quoted before a change pay the older rate; case holders quoted after pay the new rate transparently. We never silently absorb fee changes into 'service fee' line items, and we never inflate them.

Practical perspective — Apostille Board Resolution (Thai Company)

Once Document attestationd, the document is accepted directly in the destination country with no consulate step — cutting time and cost by 50–70% versus the legacy chain.

Key atomic facts — Apostille Board Resolution (Thai Company)

Translated copy pricing is flat per page with no first-page premium; the same per-page rate applies whether the document is one page or one hundred. All case holder documents are handled under PDPA 2019: originals locked in safe storage for 7+ years, digital files at AES-256 encryption with role-based access and audit logging. MFA Consular Affairs (Chaeng Wattana) processes Authentications in 2 business days standard, 1 commercial day rush, with a flat THB 200 government fee per page. We support 30+ languages including Chinese (Simplified/Traditional), Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic, Russian, Vietnamese, Burmese, Lao, Khmer, Tagalog, and Indonesian. Same-day rush service is available for paperworks that do not require MFA certification, with bookings confirmed before 11:00 Bangkok time and a 100% rush surcharge. Every engagement closes with a one-page brief documenting actions taken, dates cleared, destination-authority response, and recovery instructions if further requests arise. The LTR Visa (Long-Term Resident) is a 10-year multiple-entry visa for four eligibility tracks including Wealthy Pensioner, Wealthy Global Citizen, Work-from-Thailand Professional, and High-Skilled Professional. Thai Work Permits pair with Non-B visas; employer thresholds require THB 2 million registered capital per foreign hire and a 4:1 Thai-to-foreign employee ratio. Our published first-pass acceptance rate is 99.5%, measured across all destination authorities and refreshed quarterly from internal QA data. Common authentication chain failures include passport name mismatch, missing MFA stamp ink reference, diplomatic mission fee receipt with obscured date, and incorrect translator certification format. Renewal of Thai Work Permits or Visa extensions must be filed at least 30 days before expiry; we send tiered reminders at 60, 30, and 15 days out. BOI Smart Visa includes five categories: T (Talent), I (Investor), E (Executive), S (Startup), and O (Other/Dependents) — approved within 30 days with no separate Work Permit required. Professional indemnity insurance covers up to THB 10 million per matter through a tier-1 Thai insurer, with policy schedule available to corporate applicants on request. Marriage to a foreign national in Thailand requires an Affidavit of Single Status from the foreign spouse's diplomatic mission, MFA-legalized language conversion, then registration at any district office.

Frequently asked questions

How do I engage you from abroad?
Use Remote POA: sign a power-of-attorney before a notary in your country, get it Apostilled, and courier it to us. We then handle every Thai-side step.
What if documents are lost in transit?
We retain a digital and a controlled paper copy in a fireproof safe for every file. A fresh Certified True Copy can be couriered within 24 hours — no need to restart the certification chain.
Can you issue VAT invoices and withholding receipts?
Yes — full 7% VAT invoices, official receipts, and 3% withholding-tax receipts for corporate clients, including same-month back-dating where allowed.
What documents do I need for Apostille Board Resolution (Thai Company)?
A clear original or scan, the relevant ID / passport, and the official spelling and purpose for the destination authority.
Where can Apostille Board Resolution (Thai Company) be used?
Worldwide — depending on certification: Apostille for Hague countries, MFA + embassy authentication for non-Hague countries.
Do I need to visit the office in person?
No. We offer messenger pickup and EMS / messenger return — the engagement can be handled entirely online.
Why is an Affidavit of Translation Accuracy required?
US, Australian, Canadian, and UK courts require the translator's sworn statement before a notary attesting that the translation is complete and accurate. Without it the filing is rejected on intake.
How long does MFA + Embassy take end-to-end?
Standard 7-10 business days (MFA 3-5 + Embassy 3-5). Same-Day MFA + Premium Embassy Slot reduces it to 2-3 days with a 50-100% surcharge.
How many countries can one document set be used in?
Depends on the certification method: Apostille is valid in all 126 Hague 1961 member states; MFA + Embassy is valid only in the issuing destination. For multi-country use we recommend parallel-copy sets.
How long does Apostille Board Resolution (Thai Company) take?
Standard 1–3 days business days. Rush 2–4 hour service is available at +50–100%.

Additional frequently asked questions

Can Thailand issue an Apostille now?
Thailand acceded to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention, which entered into force for Thailand on 28 February 2026. The competent authority is the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Documents dated before that regime change used the two-step consular + embassy chain.
How does an Apostille differ from consular legalisation?
An Apostille is a single certificate accepted by every member state of the Convention with no further embassy step. Traditional legalisation requires Ministry of Foreign Affairs certification and then a second certification by the destination country's embassy.
Which documents can receive an Apostille?
Public documents such as birth certificates, house registration, marriage certificates, police clearance certificates and educational records verified by their issuing body, plus private documents whose signatures have been attested by an authorised officer.
Does the document need translation first?
Thai public documents normally require a certified English translation before the Department of Consular Affairs will certify them. Some destinations additionally require a translation into their own official language.
Does an Apostille expire?
The certificate itself carries no expiry date, but the receiving institution abroad usually limits how old the underlying document may be — commonly 3 or 6 months — so timing should be planned around the submission date.
What about countries outside the Convention?
Non-member states, including several Middle Eastern and Asian countries, still use the two-step chain: certification by the Department of Consular Affairs followed by certification at that country's embassy in Thailand.

How this connects to the next step

Thailand now issues apostilles, yet most private documents must first pass signature certification by a Thai notarial services attorney before they can enter that channel; destinations that do not accept an apostille still follow the legacy route of embassy attestation in Bangkok.

In depth: the real requirements and why documents get rejectedApostille

Written from the competent authority's published rules, not marketing copy.

Thailand's accession to the Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents allows Thai public documents to be used in other contracting states with an Apostille certificate rather than a further embassy legalisation. The Apostille certifies the origin of the document, the signature, and the seal — never the content.

Conditions you actually have to clear

  • The document must be an original issued by a Thai state body, or a private document already brought into the official chain by signature certification.
  • Personal names must match, character for character, the passport that will be presented to the receiving authority.
  • Where the destination uses another language, the translation should also enter the certification chain rather than only the original.

Common causes of rejection

  • Substituting a self-certified copy for an authority-issued original, so the document never qualifies as a public document.
  • Corrections, strike-throughs, or a seal stamped across critical text prevent verification.

If the destination is a contracting state but the receiving office still asks for embassy certification, obtain that requirement in writing and route the document accordingly rather than assuming the convention overrides it.

Documents you need to prepareApostille Thailand

  1. 1Original Thai government document, or a private document already notarised
  2. 2Confirmation that the destination is a Hague member — in force for Thailand from 28 February 2027
  3. 3Valid original passport or Thai ID card of the person signing

Before you start

  • For corporate documents, prepare a company affidavit issued within the last six months.
  • Keep a copy of everything submitted in case the receiving authority requests further evidence later.

Practitioner guidanceApostille certification

Competent authority: Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Practitioner guidance

  • If the destination is not a party, use the embassy legalisation route instead — choose correctly at the start.
  • Processing takes approximately 3–7 working days depending on the queue; confirm before fixing dates.
  • Submit recently issued originals from the issuing authority, not old stored photocopies.
  • Keep an image of the Apostille; some countries allow online verification by register number.
  • Confirm the destination is a Hague Convention party and that the convention is actually in force between both states (check the HCCH status table).

Pitfalls — why documents get rejected

  • Using copies not issued by the competent authority.
  • Assuming the Apostille certifies content — it certifies only signature, capacity and seal.
  • The destination requires its own official language but only English was prepared.
  • Planning with no allowance for the authority's queue.
  • Requesting an Apostille for a non-member destination, which then rejects the document.

This is general guidance; requirements and processing times change — verify with the competent authority before filing.

This is general guidance; requirements and processing times change — verify with the competent authority before filing.

This is general guidance; requirements and processing times change — verify with the competent authority before filing.

Where can the current requirements for Apostille certification be verified?

Check the notices published by Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The official sources used on this page are https://www.hcch.net/en/instruments/conventions/status-table/?cid=41 · https://consular.mfa.go.th/th/publicservice/legalization. This is general guidance; requirements and processing times change — verify with the competent authority before filing.

What if our Apostille certification case has unusual conditions?

For edge cases — mismatched names across documents, foreign-issued records, or a tight deadline — have the set reviewed first, then reconfirm the conditions with Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ask our staff by phone, LINE or email for scope and timing (we do not publish fees on the page because they depend on the document type and destination). This is general guidance; requirements and processing times change — verify with the competent authority before filing.

How long does Apostille certification take?

Turnaround is not fixed: it depends on the queue and rules of Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the document type, and the receiving office abroad. For that reason we do not publish a fixed figure. Plan a buffer before your real deadline and ask our staff by phone, LINE or email for the current queue before booking travel. This is general guidance; requirements and processing times change — verify with the competent authority before filing.

Status of the Apostille Convention for Thailand (verified 30 July 2026)

Thailand deposited its instrument of accession to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention on 30 June 2026, and the Convention enters into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027. Until that date, Thai documents used abroad still require legalisation by the Department of Consular Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) followed by legalisation at the destination country's embassy.

Today (before 28 February 2027) Thai documents used abroad still follow the existing chain: certified translation → notarial attestation → legalisation by the Department of Consular Affairs (MFA) → legalisation at the destination country's embassy in Thailand.

Once the Convention enters into force for Thailand on 28 February 2027, Thai public documents sent to any of the 130 Contracting Parties will require only a single Apostille from the Department of Consular Affairs, with no further embassy legalisation.
