What is the MFA consular legalization process in Thailand?

Quick Answer

MFA process: (1) translate Thai docs to English (or vice versa) by certified translator → (2) NSA notarize → (3) submit to MFA Department of Consular Affairs (Chaeng Watthana) → (4) optional embassy legalization. Turnaround 3–7 business days.

Detailed Answer

Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Department of Consular Affairs, located at Chaeng Watthana Government Complex, certifies Thai-issued documents for international use. Standard chain: (1) translate the Thai document to English (or target language) using a certified translator; (2) Notarial Services Attorney certifies the translation accuracy; (3) submit to MFA Counter Service or Express Counter — fee THB 400/page (express +THB 800); (4) if the destination country is not a Hague Apostille member, add embassy legalization. Effective 14 December 2025 Thailand joined Hague Apostille, so for 125+ countries step 4 becomes a single Apostille instead of embassy legalization. NPT manages the full pipeline end-to-end.
