Legal framework for marrying in Canada with Thai-issued documents
Canada marriage registrars require foreign-national applicants to submit certified single-status, birth, and (if applicable) divorce or death certificates from their home country. For Thai-issued documents, the relevant authentication chain depends on Hague Convention membership.
Thailand acceded to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention on 25 Sep 2024 with entry into force on 15 Jan 2026. Because Canada is a Hague member (since 2024), Thai documents bound for Canada now require only a single Apostille from Thailand's MFA Department of Consular Affairs.
